SOUTH COSTA BRAVA

It stands out for its dunes, as well as for the environmental protection carried out in the area. On the beach you can contemplate the spectacular Greek Pier, the remains of a Hellenic pier from the 1st century BC. The archaeological site of Empúries is only 200m from the village.

Cove of fine sand, protected from the tramontana. It is believed that this space could have been an ancient sunken sinkhole, because of its shape. From the beach you can walk up the coastline to the Montgó Tower, which had been used to warn of pirate attacks.

Anchoring is not allowed in the cove.

Mainly known for the big rock in the middle, this cove is ideal for scuba diving. Here you can find the famous sunken ship "Cotentin". It is characterized by a great wealth of flora species and a unique landscape of cliffs ideal for climbing.

It is located in the same bay as Cala Montgó, very popular among the inhabitants of L'Escala, it is about 20 meters wide and about 25 meters high. Depending on the sea level and the time of year, it is possible to find a rounded pebble surface with shallow water depth.

It has a great diversity of seascapes, since we find from sandy beaches with all kinds of services around them, formed by dunes, to small pebble coves surrounded by pine forests and cliffs. In front of Playa de las Barcas, we find the Roca del Cargol, which is dangerous for boats.

This cove belongs to the Montgrí Natural Park. A small stream flows from the top of the mountains. In autumn and spring, in wet weather, it usually carries a flow of clean water. In front of the cove there are some small islets, called Islotes de Cala Ferriol.

Anchoring is not allowed in the cove.

It is an open sea cave that is wide enough so that any not excessively large boat can cross it without difficulty. To get to the cave from l'Escala, it takes about 20 minutes depending on the boat.

The water is completely transparent, and the impregnation of some algae on the rocky bottom gives it a greenish hue. In front, there is an attractive island that can be reached by swimming.

Anchoring is not allowed in the cove.

Beaches of fine sand and clean water, quiet coves, hidden among forests, in Estartit there are beaches for everyone. From beaches suitable for children, to beaches suitable for animals.

These islands belong to Torroella de Montgrí. It has an exceptional seabed, as it is one of the most important marine reserves in the Mediterranean, so fishing is not allowed.

ATTENTION !! It is forbidden to use the anchor, there are blue buoys for free use and with signaling. There are orange or red buoys that have a cost.

Glamorous hotel where great figures such as Rock Hudson, Franco's wife or the ex-empress Soraya (wife of the Shah of Persia), among others, have stayed. Singers such as Julio Iglesias and Raphael have performed on the stage. In 1979 it was converted into an apartment building.

This cove does not have much sand, it is a small port quite sheltered. Around the cove you can see the large arm, Punta des Plom that goes into the sea. Its seabed looks beautiful.

Its name comes from its seafaring neighborhood, the beach is pebble, the water is clear and clean. The beach is well protected from the waves, thanks to the rocks of Punta des Plom that are a few hundred meters from the coast.

Protected by a huge wall that in the afternoon creates shade on the beach, it is known for its great depth a few meters from the edge. Its bottom is made of stones, a perfect place for snorkeling or diving.

It has eight coves and beaches, arranged in the north, east and south of the village, of completely different characteristics and scenery. From the coast you can see the Castle of Begur in the highest part of the village.
